India celebrates Republic Day every year on 26 January. This day is a golden page in our history, when the country cherished its identity through the Constitution and emerged as an independent, democratic republic. This year we are celebrating the 76th Republic Day, which is an occasion to remember our collective efforts, struggles and achievements.
Historical significance of Republic Day
The Constitution of India came into force on 26 January 1950. But there was a special reason behind choosing this day. On 26 January 1930, the Indian National Congress took a resolution of “Purna Swaraj” in the Lahore session. At that time it was a dream that India would be free from the slavery of the British and run its own rule. With the implementation of the Constitution, this dream came true. This day was not only the beginning of a constitutional process, but it also symbolized the completion of India’s long journey of independence.
The Constitution of India is the largest written constitution in the world. It took 2 years, 11 months and 18 days to prepare it. The Constitution gave us the right to equality, liberty and justice.
Freedom struggle and the foundation of the Republic
The history of Republic Day is not limited to 1950 only. Its basis is in the freedom struggle of the 19th and 20th centuries. Mangal Pandey, Rani Lakshmibai, Chandrashekhar Azad, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh and countless freedom fighters through their sacrifices and struggle created an environment in which India could truly understand its independence. Their sacrifices taught us that true freedom is not only political freedom, but also ensuring equality and justice in society.
Narayan Seva Sansthan and the spirit of the Constitution
Narayan Seva Sansthan has always kept the values of the Constitution alive through its work. The aim of the institute is to empower the most vulnerable sections of the society, especially the Divyangjan and the needy. This institute has been providing free operations, prosthetic limbs, and rehabilitation services to lakhs of Divyangjan for the last four decades.
The spirit of the Constitution says that every person should get equal opportunities and rights. Narayan Seva Sansthan embodies this spirit in every step of its life. Be it medical assistance, providing employment opportunities through skill development or making the needy self-reliant. The institute has proved through its work that service and dedication is an accurate medium to bring change in the society.
What does Republic Day teach us?
Republic Day is a day of celebration as well as introspection and self-improvement. This day teaches us that while using the rights given by the Constitution, we should never forget our duties. Helping the weaker sections of the society, promoting education and adopting the principle of equality should be included in our duties. Republic Day inspires us to live our lives in such a way that we contribute to the well-being of others.
On the 76th Republic Day, let us all take a pledge that we will make the values of our Constitution a part of our lives. We will make every effort to spread the message of equality, freedom and justice in the society. Like Narayan Seva Sansthan, we too will help the needy and contribute towards building a better India.
This day not only reminds us of our history but also inspires us towards a brighter and more equal future.
Jai Hind!
