What is the best way to help poor children in India?

In 2022, India is considered to be one of the fastest growing economies in the world (11.5% growth rate, according to the International Monetary Fund). However, despite this growing economy rate, the country also faces the problem of largest child poverty.

According to the World Poverty clock, around 6-7% of the Indian population lives in extreme poverty and the children belonging to the age group of 0 to 19 are most affected by it.

According to UNICEF India, children from poor backgrounds like rural areas, tribal communities, urban poor families, slums, and so on face a lot of challenges like malnutrition, lack of access to quality health and education, lack of hygienic environment and sanitation facilities, child labour and so on.

Just like our former honourable Prime Minister Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru stated, children are the future of the nation and the citizens of tomorrow, hence, it is important to help them find a right path to lead a healthy and decent life. However, how can one help in this?

Here are some of the best ways through which one can help poor children in India –

  • Donating

In a country where millions of poor and underprivileged children suffer from various problems, donations can be of great help.

One can either opt for monetary donations or for resource donations to governmental or non-governmental organisations. Narayan Seva Sansthan is one of the top NGOs in India that accepts monetary donations from the public for welfare of unprivileged children and divyangs.

You can also donate to your nearby orphanages by searching about them on the internet. Just googling titles like ‘children orphanage near me‘ or ‘children homes near me’ might do the work.

If not nearby, then online donations are possible too! Nowadays, online donations in India are common, hence, one can easily donate from any part of the country without any trouble if they have a stable internet connection.

You can even donate for a particular cause like education or health by searching about child education NGOs or child healthcare organisations in India.

  • Volunteering

Apart from donation of money and resources, you can also donate your time in helping these children by volunteering. There are many organisations that accept volunteers who wish to do charitable work.

  • Organising and participating in fundraising events and collection drives for children

In order to help poor children, you can hold and participate in various fundraising events like marathons and walkathons or hold collection drives like collecting books and toys for the children.

  • Mentor or sponsor a child

Instead of donating large sums of money for children welfare, you can personally sponsor a talented child and help him/her lead a better life in the future.

If not sponsoring, then you can consider either mentoring a child or help him/her get a suitable mentor so that they can be guided well for their future path.
