देशे काले च पात्रे च तद्दानं सात्त्विकं स्मृतम्।।

(Deshe Kale Cha Patre Cha Taddanam Sattvikam Smritam.)

This donation should be according to the time, place and person in which it is suitable. Lord Shri Krishna has told Partha the characteristics of Sattvik donation and told that the real value of donation is when it is done without any expectations and selfishness.

It is said in Manusmriti-

 

यज्ञदानतपःकर्म नित्यं सम्प्रतपस्विन:। 

(Yagyadanatapahkarma nityam sampratapasvinah.)

आधारं श्रद्धया युक्तं तं दानं धर्मनिष्ठितम्॥
(Aadhaaram shraddhaya yuktam tam daanam dharmnishitam॥)
