Mohini Ekadashi 2025 Date and Shubh Muhurta

In 2025, it will start on May 7 at 10:19 am. And it will end the next day on May 8 at 12:29 pm. In Hinduism, only the auspicious time of sunrise is accepted.

Importance of Mohini Ekadashi

According to mythology, the Amrit Kalash was found in the churning of the ocean. There was a tug of war between the gods and the demons over this. Everyone wanted to attain immortality by consuming the Amrit. The gods were getting left behind by the demons in this race. Seeing this, everyone requested Lord Vishnu to find a solution to this problem.

In such a situation, Lord Vishnu hypnotized the demons by taking the form of Mohini and gave the Amrit Kalash to the gods and they became immortal. Lord Vishnu took the form of Mohini on this Ekadashi. Therefore, this Ekadashi is called Mohini Ekadashi.

The importance of this Ekadashi was told to Yudhishthira by Lord Krishna himself. By fasting on this day with full devotion and heart, one gets the same virtuous fruit as performing a yagya. Also, one gets the same virtuous fruit as donating a thousand cows.

Donation has great importance in Hinduism, it is described in the scriptures that when someone donates to the needy, he gets freedom from sins. After coming to this world, people must donate, because donation is the only thing that goes with you even after death. Otherwise everything else remains here. The importance of donation has been mentioned in detail in the scriptures and Puranas.

In the Atharvaveda, it has been said about donation-

Shatahast samahar sahasrahast sam kir.

(शतहस्त समाहर सहस्त्रहस्त सं किर।)

Kritasya karyasya cheh spaatim samaavah.

(कृतस्य कार्यस्य चेह स्फातिं समावह।। )

Meaning, earn money with a hundred hands and distribute it to deserving people with thousands of hands. May your charitable works be famous in this world.

Mentioning donation, it has been said in the Kurma Purana-

Swargaayurbhutikamen tatha paapopashantaye.

(स्वर्गायुर्भूतिकामेन तथा पापोपशान्तये।)

Mumukshuna cha daatvyam brahmanebhyasthaavaham.

(मुमुक्षुणा च दातव्यं ब्राह्मणेभ्यस्तथाअवहम्।।)

Meaning, a person who desires heaven, long life and prosperity and wants to attain peace from sins and salvation should donate generously to Brahmins and deserving people.
