Historical and mythological significance of Holi

The story of Holi echoes devotion, faith and the victory of Dharma over Adharma. Its most famous reference is related to the story of devotee Prahlad and Hiranyakashyap. When the arrogant king Hiranyakashyap made many efforts to stop his son Prahlad from worshipping God. But none of his efforts were successful, then finally he ordered his sister Holika to sit in the fire with Prahlad in her lap, because Holika had the boon that fire cannot burn her. But by the grace of God, Prahlad remained safe and Holika was burnt to ashes. Since then this festival is celebrated as a symbol of the end of evil and the victory of good.

Holi is also deeply related to the childhood antics of Lord Krishna. It is said that Krishna used to play Holi of colors with his friends and gopis, due to which this festival became very popular in Braj. Even today, the Holi of Barsana and Vrindavan is famous all over the world, where a wonderful confluence of love and devotion is seen.

Various colors of Holi

Different parts of India have their own unique traditions of celebrating Holi.

The Holi of Braj and Mathura is colored with the love of Radha-Krishna, where the Lathmar Holi of Barsana is a special center of attraction. Also, in Bengal it is celebrated as Dol Purnima, where devotees perform bhajan-kirtan by placing the idols of Radha-Krishna in a palanquin.

And congratulate each other. In North India, Holi is considered incomplete without the fun of Gujhiya, Thandai and Bhang. In Bundelkhand, people sing Phaag on the occasion of Holi. Royal style is seen in the Holi of Rajasthan, where grand events are organized. In Manipur, it is celebrated for five days as Yaosang festival.

Shadow of Bhadra in Holika Dahan

This time there is the shadow of Bhadra during Holika Dahan. Every time special care is taken of Bhadra during Holika Dahan. It is believed that burning Holika in the shadow of Bhadra is inauspicious. According to the scriptures, auspicious works done during Bhadra Kaal have a negative effect. For this reason, before setting the time of Holika Dahan, one waits for Bhadra to end.

According to astrological calculations, Bhadra Kaal will end on March 13, 2025 at 10:30 pm. In such a situation, it would be very auspicious to burn Holika from 11:26 pm to 12:30 pm. This auspicious period for Holika Dahan is going to be 1 hour 4 minutes.

Do not forget responsibility in the fun of Holi

Play Holi of colors, but use only natural colors so that no one gets harmed. Take care of water conservation and include the needy in this happiness. Real joy comes only when Holi becomes not just a festival, but a message of humanity.

So this time, celebrate Holi not just like a festival, but as an opportunity to embrace every color of life. Erase all your grievances and get drenched in the colours of love and brotherhood.
